Terms & Conditions

By paying the deposit, you accept and agree to be legally bound by the terms and provisions of Real Kiwi Horse Trekking’s terms and conditions.

All reasonable steps are taken by Real Kiwi Horse Trekking to mitigate accidents; however, horses are animals and riders ride at their own risk.

Real Kiwi Horse Trekking will not be held responsible for weather conditions. New Zealand is a small mountainous country and our climate is heavily influenced by two main geographical features: the mountains and the sea. As a result, weather conditions can fluctuate significantly at any time of the year – especially in the high-country. Track conditions can quickly become dangerous to ride. Therefore, it is imperative each rider adheres to their guides instructions.  While every effort is made to accommodate all riders when matching rider and horse, we must consider safety first.

Riders must wear a protective helmet for the entire trek duration.

Riders are responsible for bringing appropriate clothing and footwear. Please download our gear list PDF for reference.

Personal belongings such as baggage, cameras and cell phones are welcome. All personal items are rider’s sole responsibility.

We do not allow clients to ride with backpacks/handbags or large cameras. Real Kiwi Horse Trekking is not responsible for any damage or loss of items. Any found lost property will be returned at client’s cost.

Please advise your guide of any medical conditions or medication that you need to carry with you.

Our staff are here to make sure your journey is one of enjoyment and safety. Please listen and follow their instructions. This is for your safety, the safety of our horses and other riders.

On arrival please ensure that you have carefully read and understand the waiver and terms and conditions. You as the client are required to complete all documentation including but not limited to; medical conditions, dietary requirements, signature on a waiver and release agreement, next of kin and your arrival and departure details.

By paying the deposit, you accept and agree to be legally bound by the terms and provisions of Real Kiwi Horse Trekking’s payment and policies.

A non-refundable booking fee is required to secure a booking. Real Kiwi Horse Trekking is under no obligation to place or maintain booking until the booking fee has been paid.

Real Kiwi Horse Trekking accepts payments via bank transfers, Visa, MasterCard, Eftpos or cash. Please advise us if you wish to pay via bank transfer and we will supply transfer information.

The remaining balance is due on arrival prior to your ride. Any extras such as accommodation upgrades or additional days etc. are payable prior to departure.

10% interest will be charged to all overdue accounts.

All debt collection and legal fees will be payable by client in the event that legal proceedings become necessary to recover any outstanding debt.

The final payment must be paid by the completion of your trek and prior to your departure.

Real Kiwi Horse Trekking prefers cash for gratuities. Please come prepared if you plan on tipping your guide and/or staff. 15% of the trek total is the usual gratuities amount. This is an indication only and gratuities are totally at the discretion of the rider. Guiding is seasonal employment, so tipping keeps many guides and staff in the industry.
